Gem Diamonds recognises the health and safety of persons affected by its operations or businesses as being of primary importance. The Company is therefore committed to, as a minimum organisational requirement, complying with all relevant regulatory requirements applicable in the areas in which it operates.

Gem Diamonds is committed to the following responsibilities:

• implementing a structured health and safety management system at all operations;
• promoting the regular measurement, monitoring, reporting and improvement of health and safety objectives;
• identifying, assessing and managing the potential health and safety hazards affecting employees, contractors and other persons affected by the Company's operations, as well as machinery, materials, equipment, and operating processes and procedures;
• effectively communicating health and safety risks and procedures to all affected parties on a systematic and regular basis;
• through audit and observation at all levels, ensuring compliance with procedures and legal requirements;
• promoting a culture of health and safety awareness at all levels of the organisation;
• regularly reviewing the health and safety management systems at all operations to ensure that they remain current and effective; and
• maintaining transparent, consultative relationships with all stakeholders through effective communication channels;

The HSSE Committee has the responsibility of formulating and recommending to the Board the Company's policy for health and safety issues. The Committee also reviews management's investigations into incidents in order to assess whether policy improvements are required and, where appropriate, formulate and recommend such improvements.

To this end, Gem Diamonds will provide the necessary financial, physical and human resources required to ensure the implementation of and compliance with this policy.
