Gem Diamonds recognizes as being of primary importance, both in terms of its business imperative and its moral and legal responsibility, to protect the health and safety of persons affected by our operations, to ensure the protection of the environment and the positive interaction with communities in areas where its operations are conducted. The Company aims to contribute to the fostering of mutual respect and to establishing long-term and sustainable relationships. Furthermore Gem Diamonds is committed to complying with all relevant regulatory requirements applicable in the areas in which it carries on its operations.
To meet these responsibilities, Gem Diamonds commits itself to the identification of hazards and the assessment and management of risks associated with the health and safety of employees, contractors or other persons affected by our operations, the safety of machinery, materials, equipment, operating processes and procedures, the environmental aspects as well as the risks to communities in which the Company operates.
To this end Gem Diamonds has formed a Health, Safety, Corporate Social Responsibility and Environmental (HSSE) Committee that meets a minimum of four times a year or at such greater regularity as may from time to time be required.
The HSSE committee is comprised of members of the Board and will be appointed by the main Board of Directors. Other Directors and/or managers will be invited to participate in committee activities and decision making as and when appropriate.
The Committee has the responsibility of formulating and recommending to the Board, the Company's policy for HSSE issues and for reviewing management's investigations of incidents that occur in order to assess whether policy improvements are required or where appropriate formulate and recommend such improvements.
In order to implement and sustain policies and procedures Gem Diamonds has provided the necessary financial, physical and human resources to provide for the implementation of and compliance with this policy.
