Letšeng
The mine, located in the Maluti Mountains in the Kingdom of Lesotho in Southern Africa, is the world’s highest diamond mine, at an average altitude of 3,100m above sea level, and one of the coldest places in Africa.

In May 2007, Gem Diamonds acquired Gope Exploration from De Beers and Xstrata for US$34 million. Gope Exploration Company (Pty) Limited, now renamed Gem Diamonds Botswana (Pty) Limited, holds a 25 year mining licence for the Gope Deposit, now renamed as Ghaghoo Diamond Mine.
